create art, naturally
Possibilities to create are everywhere, and it just so happens we have a ton of bamboo on our property. I had this idea to push it just a little bit by adding some color to the cut bamboo we have from thinning. This concept can be used in any garden, but here I worked it into the bamboo like it was nature gone color crazy, it looks great in the different light of the day. There are so many ways to live an art filled life, like...
THE BUS GAME (play it today)
When I was in art school my friends and I rode the bus everywhere and took every opportunity we had to create. One of our favorite “creations” was the bus game. It’s easy and fun to play. It can be themed, have a goal, or just be random. The surface can be a piece of paper or a chalkboard or even a placemat. Create a party mural with a roll of craft paper. You don’t have to be great at drawing, just rely on your imagination. two or...
on the mend
You know, I used to keep all extra buttons together, sometimes separated by size or color, sometimes by style. I would keep the buttons from new clothes and mark from what shirt or dress they came from. Slowly the buttons became part of a giant mess of a pile of extra pieces and parts of clothes long gone or never to be looked at or used again. Yesterday everything changed. Pickled Green Beans
Friends who love to cook and share recipes. You know when you wake up thinking about what a wonderful time you had with good friends and then you remember the delicious food that was served! That is how it is with Meade. The last time we were together she served pickled green beans as an appetizer. I don’t know how many times I have looked for an interesting dish like this, just perfect. MEADE’S PICKLED GREEN BEANS Remember to...
Romesco!
Love to say it, sounds like a dance. Like “Hey everyone lets go to the club and dance the romesco!” Or a song, or a salsa band, to me it’s musical and it has a heavenly taste. So, maybe after a couple of glasses of wine, and a little magical romesco, you and your guests will be dancing and singing the praise of this nutty pepper Spanish sauce. It’s typically served with grilled spring onions, but I like it with roasted or grilled...
Finding beauty everywhere
Sometimes the most beautiful natural arrangements are just outside your door. They don’t have to be fancy, they don’t even have to be in bloom or even anything more than a stick. Go out! Look for branches, wild flowers, buds, evergreens, old leaves on a branch from winter, see what is around you. Cut them. (Careful!) Now put them in a vase that matches the colors. Pretty,...
